Renaming Ceremony

Taking things personally can really contribute to suffering. I’ve been trying to figure out why I get so caught up in certain thoughts, and it’s definitely because I am labeling myself Future Worry or Comparison Gal, or even Shame for having these thoughts.

"The ocean refuses no river.
The open heart refuses no part of me."

(Sufi saying)

Isn’t that beautiful? No one is turned away for their thoughts or their beliefs about who they are or should be.

Today, I invite you all to come here and wash away the names you have carried with you all your life. Let them all flow to the ocean, the source of everything sacred and pure.

What name would you have now? I like Gentle One and Mindful Mermaid.

Such a lovely invitation. I accept. I will call myself
"She who lives with ease." I like that. No struggle. No worries. No hurries. No pressures:-)

That is a beautiful saying.
Mindful mermaid is good - it suits you. Ok, for me I'll keep with the river theme and call myself 'Floating leaf'. I go with the flow and life supports me and takes me to where I'm meant to be. Lovely post!

Mindful One,
Just wanted to say that this process of "naming" ourselves or even where we are in our journey right now is really powerful. When I lead women's groups, I often ask them to give themselves a new name at the end of the program. That act invites us to pause and reflect on where we are--to integrate. So much of our growth journey it seems is about gobbling something up and running with it. Or running after the next, latest greatest thing (workshop, author, etc.) Not enough time for or emphasis on pausing and reflecting. Thanks for this!

Mindful Mermaid, I love this ceremony of renewal you are inviting into. It feels so expansive and healing. My new name is "Open Flower". The vision to me is one who is open to receive the gifts of the Universe while offering up her own gifts for others to receive, in a constant flow of goodness back and forth. All in full trust and knowing. thank you, Mindful One, for this opportunity.

In the beautiful book of Tao...Lao tzu's words goes like this......

" The names that can be given Are not absolute Names"
" Nameless is the origins of Heaven and Earth,
The Named is the Mother of All Things ."

But in your beautiful idea we can evoke our renewals, just like 'the Springtime now at our doors'.

In my naming 'i m seen', yet, in my namelessness 'i m Free!'

The beautiful heart of the universe just goes on beating!
The Lover just goes on loving....

When once on retreat we were to pick new names, I chose Zena. It felt strong and powerful as I opened my heart in new ways, all the while being called Zena by everyone. It felt both like me and not me, and then more and more me until I really didn't want to give it up. Just thinking my family would really think I'd 'lost it' if I chose to change my name to this, well, I let it go after the retreat. Thanks for reminding me of that experience...and of how I choose to 'label' myself.. hm.. maybe I could again go by Zena just in the blogging world...
